James Gunn Offers Peacemaker 2 Updates

While The Penguin has been keeping DC fans busy for the last couple of months, James Gunn has been using the time to shape the first live-action show from his DCU with Peter Safran (The Penguin is a part of The Batman Epic Crime Saga and not the main DCU). We are talking about Peacemaker Season 2, which has been in the making for a while and has been the talk of the town. Most recently, the first footage from the show made headlines as it was part of the sizzle reel that confirmed everything coming on Max in 2025. While we have been busy obsessing over that first footage of the show, James Gunn has now confirmed that several key cast members have wrapped up filming their parts for the second season, including Frank Grillo.

James Gunn Offers Peacemaker Season 2 Update

For the unversed, James Gunn began filming Peacemaker Season 2 immediately after wrapping up Superman starring David Corenswet. What explains this rush is that Superman hits the big screen on July 11, 2025, and Peacemaker Season 2 is eyeing an August 2025 release. The fact that the events of the Corenswet-led movie impact the John Cena-led second season also explains why they have been worked on in close proximity. As per Gunn’s confirmation, many of the actors have wrapped up filming their portions, and it seems like the new season of the show will be wrapped up completely soon.

James Gunn, in his new update on Threads (where he is the most active), confirmed that Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Robert Patrick, Frank Grillo, David Denman, Anissa Matlock, Taylor St. Clair, and Dorian Kingi have wrapped filming Peacemaker Season 2. "What a wonderful group of people. I can't wait for everyone to see what they bring to the table," Gunn added in his social media post, which also included a closer and fascinating look at the Peacemaker helmet.

Peacemaker Season 2 Release Month Confirmed

During a preview event for Max and HBO, as per IGN, Casey Bloys spoke about the massive IPs they are taking ahead. While he confirmed the release windows for several shows, the boss man went on to talk about Peacemaker Season 2 and confirmed it hits Max in August 2025. This means the show is set to release roughly a month after the release of Superman which is set for July 11, 2025. It is an interesting window because, as Gunn confirmed, the events of Superman impact the John Cena show, and he clearly doesn't want to lose momentum, choosing to release the show immediately. This explains why he hopped from David Corenswet's film to Cena's show so quickly.

James Gunn, who is always active on Threads, was recently asked whether Season 1 of Peacemaker is completely different from the second. To this, Gunn replied, "No. A couple facts are very minorly different, that's all." The Superman director also confirmed that "It essentially picks up where Season 1 left off, with a couple of minor differences." Additionally, the filmmaker revealed on Michael Rosenbaum's podcast that Peacemaker Season 2 will be set right after the events of Superman. "Peacemaker's coming back right after I do Superman. That's my next thing. I go straight into Peacemaker from Superman" he said.
