The lawyer claims that the makers of this Manoj Bajpayee starrer have 'violated' his intellectual property rights.
Manoj Bajpayee's most recent courtroom drama, 'Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai' has received positive re views, but Poonam Chand Solanki, the lawyer who served as the story's inspiration, is less than pleased.
The advocate who served as the inspiration for Bajpai's fierce, outspoken, and righteous 'Bandaa' in the ZEE5 original film has just filed a lawsuit against the makers of the movie, alleging that they have violated his intellectual property rights.
Solanki stated in an interview with IANS that the producers failed to contact him and sold the film's rights without informing him. “I have taken the legal recourse in this matter. How can it be claimed that the movie is inspired by real-life events involving me when no NOC was collected from me, nor the script was approved by me? Those who signed an agreement with me sold the rights without informing me.”
Manoj Bajpayee plays Solanki in the Apoorv Singh Karki-directed movie, which is about a lawyer who takes on a self-styled godman who is accused of raping a young girl. Asaram Bapu was famously challenged by the real-life Solanki in court. The movie uses the name Solanki, but all other names are altered. The producers allegedly did this since they only possessed Solanki's rights.
Other rape allegations against the godman were highlighted during the five-year trial. Solanki had to contend with some of the biggest names in the field of law, like Ram Jethmalani and Salmaan Khursheed, but he remained unfazed. Asaram was finally found guilty of rape in April 2018 by the Jodhpur Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Court, and he was given a life sentence in prison.
On May 23, 'Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai' had a premiere on Zee5. The movie has garnered appreciation for both Bajpayee's acting and how it depicts the courtroom proceedings.
