Silambarasan-starrer Pathu Thala released yesterday amid good expectations from movie buffs. The gangster drama was expected to rake in career best day one figures for the star and theatres across Tamil Nadu registered good occupancy. However, an unanticipated incident which took place in Rohini theatre in Chennai left netizens furious.

The movie hall is one of the favourites for Chennai's film lovers despite them charging exorbitant prices for tickets when films of big heroes release. Many celebs are spotted during the FDFS of their movies at the theatre, another reason for cinephiles to throng to this destination.

A family which belongs to the Narikuravar community was denied permission to the hall yesterday despite them purchasing tickets at the counter. The gatekeeper didn't allow them and they were asked to leave the premises immediately. Someone shot a video of the incident which went viral in no time.

The gatekeeper's picture did the rounds on social media and the theatre management was at the receiving end. Some of the movie buffs who are often found on social media indulging in fan wars came together and lambasted the management. They tagged the social media pages of the movie hall and its two owners in their posts which criticized them heavily.

GV Prakash was the first from Kollywood to have expressed shock at the unfortunate incident. Kamal Haasan is now the latest to have joined the list. The actor-politician, too, expressed concern over the discrimination the family faced after buying tickets.

Though the management issued a clarification, it further left many furious as the reason they came up with for denying entry to them lacked logic and was described as silly and insensitive. Netizens started trending the hashtag #BoycottRohiniTheatre on Twitter.
