Given all that has happened over the past year and his four consecutive films that have performed poorly on the box office, Shah Rukh Khan now has the audience strongly on his side. Shah Rukh's comeback movie Pathaan, which marks his return to leading role after an absence of more than four years, is shattering box office records.

Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan surpassed expectations at the box office on opening day, and that too without the aid of conventional marketing strategies, amid a fan fervour that the Hindi cinema industry had not seen in a very long time. YRF’s Pathaan obliterates all records by collecting 55 crore nett in India, mints biggest ever Day 1 for a Hindi film and that too on a non-holiday.

If the movie had been released on a holiday like today's Republic Day, the figure would have undoubtedly been higher. Pathaan has won the competition with War, starring Hrithik Roshan (Rs 53.3 crore), Thugs of Hindostan, starring Aamir Khan (Rs 52 crore), and KGF: Chapter 2 in Hindi (Rs 53.9 crore).

On January 26, Republic Day, Pathaan is anticipated to increase its box office revenue and easily join the Rs 100 crore club. This will be a first for Hindi film, and Shah Rukh Khan will rise to the top of the charts for highest earners as a result.

Overtaking Happy New Year (Rs 44 crore), Pathaan has already racked up the highest opening day figures for a Hindi film during the pandemic and post-pandemic periods.

Pathaan, an action-spy movie also starring Deepika Padukone and John Abraham, is billed as SRK's triumphant return to starring role after an absence of more than four years and his first action movie after a career playing hearthrobs. Pathaan is directed by Siddharth Anand.
