Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films has officially announced the cross-cultural romance Param Sundari featuring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor. The makers have also announced the release date along with first-look posters, and the film will open in theatres on July 25, 2025.

Cross-cultural romance set in Kerala

The love story, set in Kerala and directed by Tushar Jalota (of Dasvi fame), revolves around a North Indian protagonist (Malhotra) and a South Indian character (Kapoor). This film promises a passionate narrative of love as two cultures intersect. According to Maddock's description, this love story is a rollercoaster of laughter, chaos, and unexpected twists you won't see coming, set against the magnificent backwaters of Kerala.

Dinesh Vijan compares Param Sundari to Mani Ratnam's Films

Param Sundari according to Maddock chief Dinesh Vijan, is akin to the films that Mani Ratnam previously directed, such as Saathiya, which is the Hindi-language adaptation of the Tamil drama-romance film Alaipayuthey. The music is great, Janhvi's performance as a South Indian is intriguing, Sid as a lad from Northern Delhi is believable, and the conflict is great. Imagine a more modern version of Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya—there's a tech concept there. But they are going a little farther than that; they are entering a Kantara world.

Meanwhile, Maddock's smash science fiction romantic comedy, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya features Shahid Kapoor's character, Aryan, falling in love with Kriti Sanon's character, SIFRA, a robotics engineer. At some point, SIFRA becomes emotionally intelligent.

However, in Rishab Shetty's folk-action drama Kantara (2022), set in rural Karnataka, a defiant peasant named Shiva finds himself embroiled in a conflict between his people's holy traditions and the modern avarice of outsiders.

Sidharth Malhotra shares excitement for Param Sundari with Janhvi Kapoor

Earlier, while talking about the film, Malhotra told the Bombay Times that starting a new venture this Diwali made him feel like he was starting over. The actor can't wait to work with Kapoor on something entertaining and unforgettable; it's wonderful to return to the romance genre after a while. This fresh chapter is fitting for the season of renewal.
