The comedy-drama featuring Saiju Kurup in a humorous avatar will hit theatres on August 4
Pappachan Olivilaanu, helmed by Sinto Sunny, featuring Saiju Kurup in the lead is to hit theatres on August 4. Thomas Thiruvalla, who produced the feel-good film, Pookkaalam, has produced Pappachan Olivilaanu. Sinto, in a recent interview with The Cue Studio, revealed that many big production houses had backed out from the project after realizing Saiju plays the lead.
Speaking to the Cue Studio about the production of the film, Sinto said which roughly translates to "I have known Thomas Thiravalla sir for many years and have worked in his films like Mei Hoom Moosa and Ellam Sheriyakum. I had narrated the script of Pappachan Olivilaanu to 10 directors and all of them were against casting Saiju as the lead character. Later Thomas Sir approached me and agreed to back the project."
Speaking about Saiju and the real-life characters that inspired him to make the film, Sinto said which roughly translates to "The core idea of the film is taken from a real-life incident. But elements like romance are added to make it cinematic. The film is made by adding all elements of a commercial movie that works among mainstream audiences. Saiju was not my initial choice for Pappachan. During the work of Mei Hoom Moosa, he asked me to pitch a story, suited to him. After that, I developed the story, which I had in mind into a script and narrated it to him."
The trailer and posters of Pappachan Olivilaanu promise a comedy entertainer. Saiju Kurup is expected to play a shooter in the film who does illegal hunting and violates forest laws. The film, initially scheduled to release on July 28 along with Voice of Sathyanathan was postponed later.
