Pankaj Tripathi on OMG 2 getting an 'A' certificate: Only regret is that the message meant for kids aged 12–17 will now be deprived of it

OMG 2 faces unforeseen 'A' certification and cuts. Pankaj Tripathi addresses censorship changes and regrets their impact on young audiences.

When the reports started making the rounds about OMG 2 getting several cuts and reviewing an 'A' certificate, it took many by surprise. In a very long time, this is the first time that a mainstream film has been asked for so many cuts. For the uninitiated, OMG 2 is based on sex education in India, with Pankaj Tripathi headlining the film. The Amit Rai directorial also stars Akshay Kumar as the messenger of God.

During a group media interaction, when Pankaj was asked about the film to be screened for an 18+ audience, the actor stated, "If an 'A' certificate is given, we would be a bit surprised. When we tell a story, we usually know beforehand if there's so much violence, like when the movie Gangs of Wasseypur was made. When we were making this film, no one had such intentions."

The actor further said, "We were hoping for a 12+ certificate, but now nothing can be done. Whatever has happened, has happened. Criticising the Censor Board for this won't be of any use. Let's move forward."

Pankaj also discussed the decision of the Censor Board in the era of OTT, where everything is available for everyone to watch. The actor shared, "I feel there will be discussions and conversations about it, just like on platforms like U/A where the audience is 12+. We should also make a decision about it here. It's a matter of perspective, and the members of that organisation keep changing. The Censor Board is an institution, and just like there was an amendment recently regarding the Cinema Act and piracy, over time, people will bring changes to it too."

However, he also said, "I understand that previous films were aware, avoiding controversies. They will have their point of view, and we have no objection, criticism, or grievance with anyone."

Talking about the only regret he has with the decision of the Censor Board, Pankaj went on to say, "The only regret is that the message meant for kids aged 12–17 will now be deprived of it."

OMG 2 also stars Yami Gautam as a lawyer, and the film is slated to release on August 11, 2023.
