The second season premiered on Amazon Prime Video on May 18.
When Panchayat returned for its second season, it seemed to have been embraced with open arms by fans. Panchayat 2 was on the receiving end of appreciation for not only its humour, but also some of the emotional facets of the storyline this season. And in some good news for fans, it seems Phulera has more tales to tell, as director Deepak Kumar Mishra confirmed that Panchayat will return for a third season as well.
In conversation with The Indian Express, Mishra said that although the makers are planning on continuing the show for its third season, they are not in any haste to do so. As they had the ‘responsibility’ of the previous two successful seasons, the makers were determined to spend the needed time on the script for the new season.
Regarding what he thought was the secret of the show’s success, Mishra said that the ‘simplicity’ and ‘relatability’ of the series had contributed to the love fans had for it. The director talked about how most shows set in the ‘hinterland’ revolved around violence. In the case of Panchayat, however, people were able to identify with the characters they saw, said the director.
Mishra also talked about how they wanted to do something ‘drastic’ and ‘dramatic’ for season two. That was why they had added a few emotional aspects to the story.“If you see a character always smiling, or making people laugh, and something bad happens to them, it will hit you,” he said.
The Amazon Prime Video series stars Jitendra Kumar, Neena Gupta, Raghubir Yadav,Chandan Roy, Faisal Malik and Sanvikaa in pivotal roles. The series was scripted by Chandan Kumar and produced by Arunabh Kumar under the banner of TVF.
