Paleri Manikyam 4K: Mammootty film’s re-release leaves cinephiles disappointed; Here’s why

The iconic Mammootty starrer Paleri Manikyam 4K, directed by Ranjith had its re-release in the theatres recently, has left the cinephiles and the veteran actor’s fans disappointed.

Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathirakolapathakathinte Kadha, the acclaimed 2009-released mystery period drama film featured Mammootty in a triple role. The movie, directed by Ranjith and based on TP Rajeevan’s famous novel of the same name, earned immense love from the audiences with his excellent performances and skillful making. Paleri Manikyam 4K, the digitally remastered version of the Mammootty starrer had its re-release in theatres on October 4, 2024. However, the re-release has disappointed the megastar’s fans and cinephiles.

For the uninitiated, Paleri Manikyam 4K, the remastered version of the iconic Mammootty starrer had its re-release in theatres on Friday, October 4, 2024. Unlike the other celebrated re-releases of Malayalam cinema, the Mammootty-starrer had an extremely underwhelming re-release in the theaters, much to the surprise of the cinephiles. The makers announced the re-release by revealing a couple of posters.

Paleri Manikyam 4K version didn’t even get a trailer release, before hitting the theatres. Mammootty announced the re-release of Ranjith’s film by just sharing one of the posters. The megastar notably refrained from promoting Paleri Manikyam 4K, further. From the cast and crew members, Mythili, who played the titular character Manikyam, was the only person who was seen at the theatres during the re-release.

Later, the movie had a highly underwhelming re-release in theatres, and has reportedly registered the lowest booking rates and first day collection for a re-released film, in recent times. Now, the Mammootty fans believe that re-releasing Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathirakolapathakathinte Kadha was a disastrous move, and point out that there are many other films of the megastar, that deserve a chance.

Mammootty appeared in a triple role as Murikkunnath Ahmed Haaji, his son Khalid Ahmed, and his illegitimate son Haridas Ahmed, in the film. Mythili, Shweta Menon, Gowri Munjal, Sreenivasan, Siddique, Musthafa, Suresh Krishna, and others appeared in other pivotal roles.
