Mrinal Kulkarni’s Godavari put her life into making Paithani sarees, only to never wear them. But did she finally don such a saree?
Eisha Singh and Mrinal Kulkarni in Paithani
Paithani is finally streaming on Zee5 via OTTplay Premium. Mrinal Kulkarni's Godavari, who weaves the Paithani saree in the series, is one who did not get to wear the sarees she wore. Her daughter, Kaveri (played by Eisha Singh), helped her buy a saree, but did Godavari get to wear that? Here's exploring the ending of the show...
Well, yes. Godavari did wear the Paithani saree which her daughter Kaveri wanted to see her in. But, Godavari did not wear the Paithani saree as Kaveri's gift. There was a much bigger play of destiny at hand.
Vinay Bhanushali (Shivam Bhaargava) wanted a Gateway of India print on the Paithani saree. Godavari, who has worked on the sarees all her life, wished to keep the tradition alive. She explained to him that the beauty of Paithani sarees are the pure gold and silver designs, and if Gateway of India print gets added, it would no longer be a Paithani saree. While Vinay could have cancelled the order and placed it elsewhere, he decided to do the very opposite - Godavari became the showstopper of his show and wore the very saree she stitched. Of course, she looked stunning in it.

Godavari kept the tradition of Paithani alive, but at the same time, she broke the tradition in her family. Kaveri, who paid for her estranged brother's treatment despite being ignored by her own father, did not get to give her mother Godavari the Paithani saree to wear. Instead, the mother wrapped up the saree which Vinay had booked, and gifted it to Kaveri. With that, Kaveri, a teacher by profession, would be able to break the tradition of the women in their family not being able to wear a Paithani saree.
