Despite all the controversies regarding Malayalam film Padmini’s lead actor Kunchacko Boban reportedly refusing to promote the film its producers are happy that this “didn’t have any impact” on its box office earnings. With the movie now set to release on Netflix, Prasobh Krishna, one of its producers, talks exclusively to OTTplay about the feedback the feel-good movie had received .

“The film’s box office earnings began picking up from its first weekend onwards,” says Prasobh. “The controversy and everything never had an impact on the film or how it did.” The producer also reveals that Padmini, which is helmed by Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam director Senna Hegde, was a film that had made table profit even before it had released in theatres.

Another encouraging sign for the makers was the section of audience that watched the film in theatres. “Before Padmini’s release, there were doubts whether the family audience would come to cinema halls. But recent films including Padmini have proved that if the content is good, it can attract this group of audience,” he says.

Padmini revolved around the life of a college lecturer and poet, whose wife elopes with another man on the night of their wedding. His efforts to reclaim his life and shed the nickname that he earned through the incident, and the women that crosses his path in their journey form the plot of this comedy, which also has Aparna Balamurali, Madonna Sebastian, Vincy Aloshius and Sajin Cherukayil.

Prasobh is now awaiting the feedback of the audience after it begins streaming on Netflix. “The feedback after its theatrical release has been positive. Releasing the movie on a platform like Netflix, guarantees that it will reach audiences across the world and we are all looking forward to the responses now,” he says. Prasobh is now co-producing Unni Mukundan’s fantasy entertainer Gandharva Jr, which has already completed a schedule.
