Paappan OTT release date: When and where to watch Suresh Gopi, Nyla Usha-starrer this Onam

The Joshiy directorial, which also has Neeta Pillai and Asha Sharath, is Suresh Gopi’s highest-grossing film

After its successful run in theatres, Suresh Gopi’s Paappan is gearing up for its much-awaited OTT release. The movie, which hit cinema halls in July, is the veteran star’s highest grossing film ever and marked his collaboration with director Joshiy after almost a decade.

Paappan, which is scripted by RJ Shaan, is a crime drama that has Neeta Pillai, Asha Sharath, Nyla Usha, Kaniha, Gokul Suresh, G Chandunath, Tini Thom and Shammi Thilakan in pivotal roles. The movie earned Rs 50 crore in worldwide revenue since its release and proved that Suresh Gopi movies still haven’t lost its sheen despite the actor staying away from the industry for a long time to focus on his political career.

The film had Suresh Gopi playing a former cop named Abraham Mathan Mathew, who is brought into consult a case that his daughter in investigating, after police officers draw parallels to number of murders to a serial killer’s modus operandi. This opens up old wounds for the former cop and also offers him a shot at redemption.

The movie’s rights were bought by ZEE5 last month and now we hear that Paappan will release on the platform during Onam on September 7. This is also the biggest Malayalam release on ZEE5 featuring a Mollywood superstar. The platform is also streaming Malayalam films such as Super Sharanya, Kunjeldo, Chathur Mukham and Ellam Sheriyaakum.

Paappan’s success has also greenlit several big Malayalam project starring Suresh Gopi in the lead. These include Jayaraj’s Highway 2 as well as Mathew Thomas Plammoottil’s Ottakombam, which reportedly also has Anushka Shetty in a pivotal role. Suresh Gopi’s next theatrical release will be Jibu Jacob’s Mei Hoom Moosa, which is set to hit theatres during the pooja season on September 29. The movie is expected to clash with Mammootty’s Rorschach and Mohanlal’s Monster.
