The film is written and directed by S Jayakumar and the team dropped first-look poster
Pa Ranjith dropped the first-look poster of his next and announced the film's title as Blue Star. The film is written and directed by debutant S Jayakumar, a former Ranjith's former assistant, S Jayakumar. Starring Ashokselvan and Shanthnu Bhagyaraj in the lead, Blue Star is said to be a sports drama that revolves around cricket. The rest of the star cast includes Prithvi Pandiarajan, Keerthi Pandian and Divya Duraisamy.

The first-look poster shows two sets of teams with cricket kits who seem to be looking at each other. A press statement sent earlier had stated that the film will celebrate friendship and the emotional bond one has towards the game of cricket, especially in small towns and villages.
While the music for the film is by Govind Vasanthe, cinematography is by Tamizh A Azhagan, and editing by Selva RK. Screenplay and dialogues are by Tamizh Kumar and Jayakumar. The film will be bankrolled by Pa Ranjith's Neelam Productions.
In the meantime, Pa Ranjith is currently working on Thangalaan, which stars Chiyaan Vikram in the lead. The film, which is set against the backdrop of Kolar Gold Fields in the pre-independence era is said to be inspired from a real-life story. Thangalaan also stars Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan and Pasupathi.

The team of Thangalaan is currently on a break after Vikram met with an accident during the rehearsal and injured his rib. He is recovering at home. Malavika, who has a chat session with her fans, stated that they will resume shooting soon after Vikram recovers.
She wrote on her social media handle, "So #thangalaan is coming out pretty well(if I may say so myself) and it’s a crazy, unique world we’re creating! we were gonna shoot one of our last schedules this month but unfortunately vikram sir had an injury, so will resume soon after his recovery (sic)."
