The film has Arya playing Kabilan, a boxer from North Chennai
Pa Ranjith's Sarpatta Parambarai (2021) has now gone international. The latest we hear about the film is that it has been officially selected for the Moscow International Film Festival 2023. The film's director Ranjith, shared his excitement on his social media handle, "Honoured with this recognition! #SarpattaParambarai is officially selected for the #MoscowInternationFilmFestival 2023 (sic)."
Arya had undergone massive transformation to play Kabilan, a boxer from North Chennai in the period sports action drama. He wrote on his social media handle, "Our Kabilan's story is making its mark at the @moscowfilmfest Excited and grateful to let you know that #SarpattaParambarai has made it into the official selection of #MoscowInternationFilmFestival 2023 @beemji @K9Studioz @officialneelam @KalaiActor @officialdushara (sic)."
The star cast for the film includes Dushara Vijayan, Pasupathy, John Vijay, Kalaiyarasan, John Kokken, Shabeer Kallarakkal, Anupama Kumar, Santhosh prathap, GM Sundar, Kaali Venkat, Sanchana Natarajan to name a few. The film set in the 1970s revolves around the clash between two plans - Idiyappa Parambarai and Sarpatta Parambarai in north Chennai. The film was originally supposed to be a theatrical release, but took the digital route due to the pandemic.
In the meantime, the team has announced that the sequel to the film is coming. Arya recently dropped a picture in which he is seen as a boxer. The film will mark the comeback of Arya and Pa Ranjith.
Ranjith is currently shooting Thangalaan, featuring Vikram, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan and Pasupathy. The plot is set in the pre-independence era against the backdrop of Kolar Gold Fields. Vikram, too, has undergone a makeover for the film and his new look is quite a hit on the internet. It is said that once Ranjith wraps up work on Thangalaan, he will begin shooting for Sarpatta 2. The former is likely to hit screens in the second half of the year.
