Joju George has cemented his position as one of the most popular stars in Malayalam cinema today, with his versatile roles in a number of silver screen works spanning across genres. At this year’s OTTplay Changemakers Awards, Joju was declared the Disruptive Star of the Year (Male), for his powerful performances in films such as Pada, Freedom Fight, Iratta, and the recently released Thuramukham.
The actor was presented the award by Rishab Shetty , during the awards ceremony which took place at the JW Marriott in Juhu, Mumbai.
Joju, who is also the recipient of numerous other accolades including Kerala State Awards, has also donned the hats of producer and even singer as well through the course of his decades long career. The actor’s releases this year included Rohit M. G. Krishnan’s directorial Iratta(which is available to stream on Netflix), and Rajeev Ravi’s Thuramukham.
The actor is all set to make his Telugu debut soon as well, in PVT04, starring Panja Vaisshnav Tej and Sreeleela in lead roles. The actor had made his Tamil debut in Karthik Subbaraj’s Jagame Thandhiram(2021) which starred Dhanush in the lead.
Meanwhile, Rishab also received an award at the event, being declared the ‘Gamechanger of the Year’. The actor-filmmaker directed, wrote and starred in Kantara, which became a hit with audiences and critics alike. The film is available for streaming on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
