Anil Kapoor left an impressive mark with his performance as a menacing Shelly Rungta in the Disney+ Hotstar series.
Anil Kapoor turned heads earlier this year with his menacing performance as Shelly Rungta, a businessman and arms dealer, in The Night Manager. So giving him the OTTplay Award for Best Actor (Male) Series—Popular Choice is definitely the right choice! The actor played the role of an out-and-out stylish baddie in the Disney+ Hotstar series alongside Aditya Roy Kapur, Tillotama Shome, and Sobhita Dhulipala.
During his acceptance speech, Anil Kapoor said on stage, “The Night Manager is definitely one of the most popular shows. Would like to thank Disney+Hotstar. You don’t know how the numbers are. You know that on Box Office. It is basically how OTT works around the world, unfortunately. However, this time, we got to know that The Night Manager is the most popular show on Hotstar. It was huge. They made it Nationally and even Internationally. I want to announce it today, that the show is the most popular today.”
“I want to dedicate this award to a very dear, close friend. It is a message from my dear friend, Satish Kaushik saab (hands shaking). This is the last message I got – Kapoor saab, you crafted it so beautifully. You made it the best on OTT.” He was my best cheerleader, whether my films work or not. He would praise my performance, even when the film didn’t work. Thus, I dedicate this award to my dear friend.”
“Satish was one of the greatest actors of our country. Everybody thinks he’s got in light roles but the way he played antagonists too, was unbelievable – emotional, villain. Singer, filmmaker, writer. Whenever we worked on any of our films, Anupam Kher would be jealous that Satish would come and make his own scene.”
About The Night Manager:
The night manager of a hotel is helpless in the face of a menacing armour dealer. Shaan (Aditya Roy Kapur) wants to end Shelly's (Anil Kapoor) demon world since innocent people's lives are on the line.
Earlier, while talking about being a part of The Night Manager Anil had said at an event, "Extra hard work has to be done for such a character. But it is not that I didn't have to work hard for the characters who are similar to my personality. But whenever I get such scripts, I read them at least three hundred times, record my dialogue, and send them to the director for suggestions."
The series was released in two parts earlier this year, with a total of seven episodes.
