The social comedy starred Abhishek Bachchan, Yami Gautam and Nimrat Kaur.
The past year seemed to be a stellar time for OTT content, with a number of exceptional stories being told in the digital space, spanning across languages and genres. Many of the content even made sure to go above and beyond simple entertainment, leaving people food for thought with their social messages. Dasvi was one such film which took on the form of a social comedy to hit home the message of how important education is in one’s life. The Tushar Jalota directorial took home the trophy for Best Web Original Film (Jury) at the OTTplay Awards and Conclave 2022.
The award was presented by Shantanu Maheshwari and Aanchal Singh. Aanchal took a moment to express just how special the night was for her, as she was nominated for Best Female Actor in a Web Series, along with prominent actresses such as Raveena Tandon and Madhuri Dixit. Expressing her excitement, she also spoke about how delighted she was that her Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein co-star Tahir Raj Bhasin also won the award for Best Male actor as well.
Accepting the award for Dasvi, director Tushar thanked the film’s producers, and cheekily added that the producers would have thanked him as well for his directorial efforts. “I just want to start off by saying that God’s been extremely kind. I’m truly honoured, humbled, to be winning this. Thanks to HT OTT Awards for this. My parents, for being so supportive throughout all of this. My family, my sister, who’s an inspiration for making this film for me. She’s a teacher, a professor. And it kind of stemmed from there”, said Tushar. The filmmaker also thanked his wife, daughter and writers.
The director went on to talk about the work that went behind in making the film, saying “Like most films that released over the past two years, we also did our film during the lockdown period. We only had restrictions, limitations, following so many protocols. And we shot in a real jail. But the entire process was actually so smooth thanks to Poonam, my sister. She ensured that whatever I needed was there for me”.
The OTTplay Awards and Conclave 2022 took place on September 10. The awards took place from 7.30 pm in Mumbai.
