Sunday night was an eventful time for entertainment news lovers globally! The 96th Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), took place in Los Angeles and saw Oppenheimer winning awards in multiple categories as compared to its main competition, Barbie – which was one of the highest-grossing films globally but barely managed to grab an award or two. Addressing those who drew comparisons between the two films, actors Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling addressed the ‘Barbenheimer’ trend in a quirky way.
Barbenheimer, for the unfamiliar, is a combination of the words Barbie and Oppenheimer.
At the event, Oppenheimer star Emily Blunt and Barbie actor Ryan Gosling roasted the Barbenheimer rivalry at the Oscars 2024.
Beginning the conversation on the stage, Gosling told Blunt, “I am just happy that we can finally put this Barbenheimer rivalry aside.” Responding to this, Blunt said, “The way this award season has turned out, it wasn’t that much of a rivalry. Just let it go!”
Hearing this, the audience present at the event laughed out loud. Continuing the conversation, Ryan Gosling trolled those who love Oppenheimer more than Barbie and said, “But I think I kind of figured out why it’s called ‘Barbenheimer’ and not ‘Oppenarbie.’ You’re on the tail end because you rode ‘Barbie’s’ coattails all summer.” The Barbie actor was referring to the fact that the earnings of Barbie at the box office were way more than Oppenheimer's.

“Thanks for Kens-plaining that to me, all right,” Blunt papped back to Gosling. She further said that unlike him, Robert Downey (Oppenheimer actor) did not need to get “his abs painted” to get himself nominated.
The crowd laughed tremendously.
