Oscars 2022: When and where to watch Best Animated Feature winner Encanto on OTT

Encanto has earned its place as one of the most celebrated Disney films to make its way onto the silver screen in recent times. The film received praise from critics and fans alike for its story, characters and of course, for its soundtrack which includes finger snapping hits such as ‘We Don't Talk About Bruno’ and ‘Surface Pressure’.

The Academy too recognised the film recently, and the film had received nominations for its score, music and had been nominated for Best Animated Feature Film as well. It emerged as the winner in the latter, edging out worthy competitors such as Flee, Luca, The Mitchells vs. The Machines and Raya and the Last Dragon.

The film’s soundtrack was definitely one of its strong points, with its music composed by Germaine Franco and none other than Lin-Manuel Miranda himself penning 8 original songs for the same. Miranda had been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song for ‘Dos Oruguitas’, although the award went to Billie Eilish & Finneas O'Connell for ‘No Time to Die’. Interestingly, Miranda had also been nominated in the same category for his contributions to the soundtrack of another Disney production, Moana.

Directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard, Encanto revolves around the story of the Madrigals, a Colombian family where its young members are gifted with magical abilities. One among them, Mirabel, finds herself the only one among her generation to be devoid of abilities. As the magical abilities of the rest of her family come under threat, Mirabel emerges as the hero who tries to save that from happening. The film’s voice cast features Stephanie Beatriz, María Cecilia Botero, John Leguizamo, Mauro Castillo, Jessica Darrow, Angie Cepeda, Carolina Gaitán, Diane Guerrero, and Wilmer Valderrama.
