Hollywood's biggest night, Oscars 2022, is just a week away. As the 94th Academy Awards is nearing, there was a rather surprising comment by the actor Rachel Zegler. The West Side Story star said on social media that she isn't invited to the event, even though her film has been nominated for Best Picture.
The actor recently posted a few images on her Instagram account and wrote in her caption, "a quarter of the year well spent." A user commented on her post saying, "Can’t wait to see what you’ll be wearing on Oscar night.” Zegler replied to the comment and wrote: "i’m not invited so sweatpants and my boyfriend’s flannel.”
Oscars 2022 will take place on March 27. The awards night will be hosted by Regina Hall, Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes. The nominee and presenters are offered a pair of tickets. Zegler said that she tried obtaining a ticket but she could grab her hands on one. She further added that she is proud of the project. "I will root for west side story from my couch and be proud of the work we so tirelessly did 3 years ago,” she said adding that she still hopes that a 'last minute miracle' happens and she gets to celebrate in person. In the thread of comments by fans who expressed their disappointment, she added, "thanks for all the shock and outrage— i’m disappointed, too. but that’s okay. so proud of our movie.”
Meanwhile, West Side Story is directed by Steven Spielberg. The film is competing for the Best Picture award against films like The Power of the Dog and CODA. It has received six nominations including best director and best supporting actress for Ariana DeBose. Zegler is nominated for an award but she had won a Golden Globe for her performance as María in the movie.
