The last three years of the Academy Awards had been conducted without any official host
After the last three years of having no official host on the Oscar stage, the Academy seems to want to play it differently this year. This year’s ceremony of the prestigious film awards will reportedly feature not one, but multiple hosts.
According to a report in Variety, the awards committee had talked to multiple celebrities and discussions regarding the same were still underway. As yet, no official announcement regarding the same has been made. The report also stated that only Murders in the Building stars Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez seem to be front runners when it comes to discussions on the new host.
The news comes on the heels of ABC, who televise the event, announcing that this year’s ceremony would have a host. For the last three consecutive years, the awards have taken place without any official host. The last Oscars host was Jimmy Kimmel, who hosted the awards in 2018.
If confirmed, this would not be the first time the ceremony would have more than one host. In 1983, the 55th Academy Awards were hosted by Walter Matthau, Liza Minnelli, Dudley Moore and Richard Pryor. It had become one of the most watched televised versions of the awards ever.
The Academy’s search for a good host also led to an interesting exchange on Twitter as well. The official Twitter handle of the Academy had posed a question to users, asking them who they would like to see as a host for the upcoming ceremony, reiterating that it was hypothetical.
Among the answers that flooded the poll were some well-known names such as Angela Lansbury, Tom Hanks, Tom Holland, Whoopi Goldberg, and even Donald Trump. Some Indian fans also put Shah Rukh Khan’s name in the hat as well.
