The film, presented by Daali Dhananjaya, is now available to stream
‘Sankrantige ond Kannada cinema’ – that was the catch phrase for Orchestra, Mysuru! Produced by Ashwin Vijaykumar, along with musician Raghu Dixit, the film was the directorial debut of Sunil Mysuru and captured the Heritage City’s orchestra culture, from the perspective of an aspiring singer who hopes to be a part of one such troupe. Presented by actor Dhananjaya’s Daali Pictures and KRG Studios, the film released on January 12 and was in direct competition with big-ticket Tamil and Telugu movies like Varisu, Waltair Veerayya, Thunivu and Veerasimha Reddy.
Orchestra, Mysuru! which was actor Poornachandra Mysore’s first as a leading man, however, failed to ignite the box office. Disillusioned by the poor turnout in theatres, Raghu, who has also composed eight tracks for the film, took to social media to implore audiences to support the film. “When we had a pre-release event in Mysuru with a free concert by my band, thousands turned up for the event and we thought if all of them come to see the film as well, we are sorted. But on the day when it really mattered – release day – there was no one in the theatres, either in Mysuru or Bengaluru. For the longest time, people used to ask why no Kannada films release during Sankranti, taunting filmmakers with questions as to whether we don’t have the guts to take on big movies from other industries. Now that we have taken the initiative, where are these social media activists in supporting a Kannada film at the box office?” he said in a now deleted video message, in which he got all teary eyed.
While Orchestra, Mysuru! lost the box office battle, all hope is not lost as the film has been picked up by Amazon Prime Video and is now available to stream.
