Sankrantige Ondu Kannada Chitra – that was the promotional tagline of Orchestra, Mysuru! when it released in January 2023. Daali Dhananjaya as presenter took on the challenge of releasing a Kannada film on a festival that is always given away to big-ticket movies from across the border. But despite rave reviews, Orchestra, Mysuru! failed to draw audiences to movie halls. A distraught composer Raghu Dixit, who’d also served as co-producer on the project, even took to social media lamenting how no one turned up in theatres when it mattered most - on release day.

Subsequently, when it came on OTT within a fortnight, having been picked up by Amazon Prime Video for 6 months, there was an outpouring of love for the film, with a lot of messages of praise on social media. At the end of the tenure, the film was removed from Prime Video and has not been on any platform since, until today, that is. As of July 21, Orchestra, Mysuru! is back on Amazon Prime Video. No details about how long the film will be on the platform are available at this point, but if you haven’t watched it yet, now’s your chance.

Orchestra, Mysuru! review: A sincere, endearing ode that could have afforded a few more risks

Orchestra, Mysuru! directed by Sunil Mysuru, is a tribute to the city’s orchestra culture. It follows Poornachandra Mysore as Poorna, an assistant at a dental clinic, who aspires to become a singer in his favourite orchestra troupe. He gets picked by a popular troupe, but just as soon gets thrown out as well. Determined to follow his passion, Poorna tries to launch his own troupe, but Naveen Raj (Dilip Raj), the lead singer of the group he’d messed with, scuttles all his attempts. Can Poorna fulfil his dream of being the lead singer of an orchestra? This is what the film is about.

Exclusive! Poornachandra Mysore: Orchestra, Mysuru! is a tale of struggle with beautiful music

Raghu Dixit’s music is, of course, a major highlight of the film, which is elevated with songs written by Dhananjaya. The film was Poornachandra Mysore’s first as a leading man and has several real-life orchestra artists on the cast.
