Cillian Murphy-starrer Nolan's flick nears Rs 70 crore in India.
Christopher Nolan's latest film Oppenheimer, based on the life of the 'father of the atomic bomb' Robert J Oppenheimer, is continuing to impress the audiences. The film, which released on July 21, has crossed Rs 60 crore mark in India in just five days and is inching towards Rs 70 crore.
According to trade portal Sacnilk, Oppenheimer earned Rs 5.85 crore (nett) in India on its sixth day for all languages. This brings the net total of the film to Rs 67.85 crore at the India box office. The film had an overall occupancy of 18.94 per cent on Wednesday.
Oppenheimer is the highest opening weekend ever for a Christopher Nolan film and a non-franchise Hollywood film in India. It collected Rs 55.15 crore (gross) across 1923 screens in India in its first three days. Internationally, India is the third highest market in the world, following the US and the UK.
The film has received rave reviews from critics and audiences for its gripping story, brilliant performances and stunning visuals. Cillian Murphy, who plays the lead role of Oppenheimer, has been praised for his nuanced portrayal of the complex scientist who led the Manhattan Project that developed the first nuclear weapons during World War II.
The film also boasts of an ensemble cast that includes Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, Robert Downey Jr, Rami Malek, Gary Oldman, Dane DeHaan, Josh Hartnett, Kenneth Branagh, Matthew Modine, Casey Affleck, Alden Ehrenreich and Jason Clarke.
Oppenheimer is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and Martin J Sherwin. The film explores the personal and professional life of Oppenheimer, his moral dilemmas, his political conflicts and his legacy as one of the most influential figures of the 20th century.
Oppenheimer clashed at the theatres globally with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling-starrer fantasy film Barbie on July 21. However, Nolan's film has clearly emerged as the winner in terms of box office collections and critical acclaim in India.
