The film, written and directed by MG Srinivas, had Aditi Prabhudeva in the lead along with him.
The Kannada film Old Monk, starring MG Srinivas and Aditi Prabhudeva in the lead, had released in theatres just over a month ago. At the time, the film was in a box-office clash with Prem’s Ek Love Ya and despite the favourable word of mouth, Old Monk struggled to get enough movie halls to stay in business in theatres. Critics also gave the film positive reviews for its simple, yet fun tale. If you missed catching Old Monk in theatres back then, you can soon watch it from the comfort of your home. The film’s streaming rights have been picked up by Amazon Prime Video and will start streaming from April 5, two days after its television premiere on Star Suvarna.
Old Monk as the title suggests is about the mythological old monk, Narada, who is banished from devaloka by Krishna, a curse that can be lifted only if he falls in love and gets his girl with the blessings of family too. To make Narada’s job tough, he is sent to be born into a family that does not take kindly to love matches and, as an adult, he gets off on the wrong footing with his lady love’s folks as well. Can Narada find a way out of this and break his curse after all?
The best part about Old Monk is its comedy, which is situational and a continuous part of the narrative, rather than being a separate track that sticks out like sore thumb. The film stars MG Srinivas, Aditi Prabhudeva, Sudev Nair, S Narayan, Sujay Shastry, Sihi Kahi Chandru, Aruna Balraj, Mandara Battalahalli, Sunil Rao and Meghashri, among others.
