Butta Bomma, which was the Telugu remake of Kappela, marked Anikha Surendran’s first film as a heroine
Malayalam actress Anikha Surendran, who is all set for the release of her first Mollywood film as a lead actress with Oh My Darling, has gone through a similar experience earlier this year in Telugu with Butta Bomma.
The movie, which is the Telugu remake of Anna Ben, Roshan Mathew and Sreenath Bhasi-starrer Kappela, had her essaying the role that the Kumbalangi Nights actress had played in the original.

Anikha, however, tells us that she was unfazed with the comparisons that it could have drawn with the original. Ask her about the feedback after the movie had released and she says, “The Telugu movie was made in a much more different way than the Malayalam. It was made as an entertainer in a way and because of that my role was also different. I also didn’t want any comparisons with the character that Anna had played and it just turned out that both roles were different.”
Post the success of Butta Bomma, the actress would feel she is more confident about her upcoming release in Malayalam, Oh My Darling, which is a feel-good romcom also starring Melvin G Babu, Mukesh, Manju Pillai, Fukru and Lena. But Anikha says as the release date nears, she is feeling the jitters.
“Initially, when I signed the movie, I thought I was doing it because it appealed to me. But now I know that certain people have expectations about me and my film because a lot of the audience have seen me grow up on the screen. But I feel I will be okay because it’s an interesting role, she says.
Oh My Darling is set to hit theatres on February 24 along with Arjun Ashokan, Anaswara Rajan and Mamitha Baiju’s Pranaya Vilasam, Kalabhavan Shajohn and Anu Sithara’s Santosham and Bhavana’s comeback Malayalam movie, Ntikkakkakkoru Premandaronn.
