It's the season of re-releases in Tamil cinema! After the recent successful re-release of Vijay's Ghilli, actor Ajith Kumar's Billa is set to return to big screens on May 1, on the occasion of the actor's birthday. The film will be re-released on more than 150 screens across Tamil Nadu.
It is also expected that the Ajith-starrer Mankatha will also be re-released on May 1. The back-to-back re-releases of hit films are expected to give some respite to the lull-phase that big screens are going through.

Ajith's Billa to be re-released on May 1
Ajith Kumar’s Billa is an action thriller film that was released in 2007 and was directed by filmmaker Vishnuvardhan. Billa is the reboot of the 1980 film of the same name, which starred Rajinikanth in the lead role. The 1980 film is a remake of the 1978 film Don, starring Amitabh Bachchan.

Billa became a commercially hit film and stars Ajith in dual roles as a commoner and don. After the latter dies, the commoner is asked to take his position, pretending to be the titular character. Billa also starred Prabhu, Nayanthara, Namitha, and Santhanam, among others. It had music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
In 2012, a prequel for the film was released, which was written and directed by Chakri Toleti. Ajith Kumar reprised his role as Billa and starred along with Vidyut Jammwal, Parvathy Omanakuttan, Bruna Abdullah, Yog Japee, Rohit Khurana, Manoj K. Jayan, and others.
Ajith Kumar’s upcoming movie releases
Ajith Kumar is currently working on the action thriller Vidaa Muyarchi, which is directed by Magizh Thirumeni. The film’s shooting is currently underway and is backed by Lyca Productions. On the other hand, he is also working with director Adhik Ravichandran on Good Bad Ugly. The film is set to go on floors in June, with a release date of January 2025. The film will be an action drama backed by Mythri Movie Makers.
