The countdown to the release of Yuva Rajkumar’s much-awaited debut film, Yuva, has begun, with the release of the first single, Obbane Shiva Obbane Yuva serving as a starting point to the promotions. The film, directed by Santhosh Ananddram and produced by Hombale Films, will be in theatres on March 29. Yuva is paired with Kantara fame Sapthami Gowda in the film.

Obbane Shiva Obbane Yuva was released at a special event in Chamarajnagar, where the team had a tribute show for the late Puneeth Rajkumar, before finally letting the world hear and see glimpses of the song. Composed by Ajaneesh Loknath and sung by Nakash Aziz and Santhosh, with the latter also serving as lyricist, Obbane Shiva Obbane Yuva had great expectations attached to it, but did the song live up to the hype?

If the buzz on social media is anything to go by, fans have no complaints and are loving everything about it, haters are spewing hate, while neutral audiences are saying that the song did not have the impact one expects from an intro song. The consensus is on Yuva’s swag and dance skill – the actor is at his A-game, swear netizens. But then, that is to be expected, what with choreographer Mohan getting the actor to do the hook steps of his late uncle Puneeth Rajkumar’s most popular songs.

Netizens are divided over Santhosh’s lyrics, with most finding them powerful and presenting the right amount of build-up for Yuva, some felt that his usual magic was missing in the song. The most disappointing element, they concurred, was Ajaneesh’s music, with most comments stating that the composer missed the boat in creating an impactful introduction sung, unlike, say, V Harikrishna and S Thaman.

Yuva, meanwhile, is said to be a tale of college gang wars, with the titular character Yuva having to fight to keep his friends safe. Santhosh is said to have reworked a script he had ready for Puneeth for Yuva, when the Power Star tragically passed away before embarking on a third collaboration with the filmmaker.
