Nupur Sanon: Pop Kaun is a rollicking comedy that has its heart in the right place

The music artist is making her OTT debut with new comedy series Pop Kaun, releasing on March 17, on Disney+ Hotstar

More popularly known as Kriti Sanon’s little sister, Nupur Sanon is also a music artist and is now poised to make her acting debut with the upcoming comedy series on Disney+ Hotstar, Pop Kaun. In her first OTT outing, Nupur will be seen alongside industry stalwarts like Saurabh Shukla, Johnny Lever and Rajpal Yadav. Dubbed an out-and-out comedy, the Farhad Samji-directed series also features Chunky Panday, Kunal Kemmu and Ashwini Kalsekar, among other actors.

It looks like Nupur was confident of her abilities to hold her own amid the talented ensemble cast, when she gave a nod to playing a pivotal role in the show. The director wanted to rope her in after having seen her work in the music videos, in which she featured along with Akshay Kumar.

Asserting that content is king and it’s an adage she lives by, Nupur says, “As an actor, she is drawn towards roles that speak to her instinctively.” Moreover, she doesn’t want to fall into the trap of trying to figure out what works, what’s better and what sells at this juncture.

“It’s essential to retain the purity of telling a story that entertains. When I read the script of Pop Kaun I felt it was a rollicking comedy that has its heart in the right place. OTT is something that people are binge watching widely. I just wanted to be part of content that audiences are gravitating towards. Pop Kaun is designed as an entertainer, and I am grateful for the opportunity that has come my way and I hope that in future I get more such opportunities to prove my mettle irrespective of the platform.”
