Shivarajkumar's Bhairathi Ranagal

It’s been two weeks since Century Star Shivarajkumar’s Mufti prequel Bhairathi Ranagal hit theatres. The film is inching closer to the Rs 20 cr net box office collection mark, with the release of the Kannada version only, and is all set for it to enthral Tamil and Telugu audiences too when those versions come out on November 29. In the meantime, the team has something special planned for audiences back home.

On November 29, multiplexes across Karnataka playing Bhairathi Ranagal will make the film available at a ticket rate of Rs 99 only. So, if you haven’t seen the film yet or want to catch it again, it may be a good idea to make the most of this offer. Incidentally, the Kannada film Aaram Aravinda Swamy had recently adopted this special ticket pricing strategy for the first three days of its theatrical run. Normally, lower ticket prices are only on National Cinema Day, but film teams are also increasingly realising the need to make movie watching affordable to all more often.

Bhairathi Ranagal movie review: Shivarajkumar-led Mufti prequel is like very flat soda

Bhairathi Ranagal, meanwhile, opened to mixed reviews, with fans of the commercial film genre absolutely loving the interval block, when Shivarajkumar’s character embraces his gangster avatar and wears his cult black-on-black outfit. The film revolves around how Ranagal went from being a lawyer trying to get justice for his people the right way, to wielding the machete for those results.

Rahul Bose is the main antagonist, while Rukmini Vasanth is paired with Shivarajkumar. The cast also includes Shabeer Kallarakkal, Madhu Guruswamy, Chaya Singh, Gopalkrishna Deshpande, Babu Hirannaiah, Avinash, among others. The film has been produced by Geetha Shivarajkumar for Geetha Pictures as their second home production after Vedhaa.

Shivarajkumar admits that he was hesitant to play Bhairathi Ranagal in Mufti

Shivarajkumar, who had done a quick trip across to certain key centres in the state to meet-and-greet audiences, is scheduled to depart to the US shortly, for a surgery. He has been in treatment for a while and is expected to make a full recovery and resume work by late January or early February next year.
