Dhanush's Captain Miller and Sivakarthikeyan's Ayalaan won't see simultaneous releases in the Telugu states due to the influx of numerous Tollywood releases during the Sankranti holiday.
As the year 2023 draws to a close, the filmmakers are now busy sorting out the release date for their films in 2024. With language barriers are slowly vanishing across the Indian film industry, dubbed movies are gaining significant traction at the box office. This trend is particularly noticeable in the case of Telugu-dubbed Tamil films, which secure substantial screen share along with original Telugu releases in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Tamil actors Dhanush and Sivakarthikeyan have been steadily cultivating a fan base in the Telugu states. However, their upcoming films, Captain Miller and Ayalaan, won't see simultaneous releases in the Telugu states. This decision is influenced by the influx of numerous Tollywood releases during the second week of January, including Mahesh Babu's Guntur Kaaram, the superhero movie HanuMan, and Ravi Teja's Eagle, all strategically timed to capitalize on the Sankranti holiday.
With a multitude of new Telugu releases dominating the cinema landscape, theatres in the Telugu states find themselves stretched to capacity, making it challenging to accommodate dubbed movies from other languages alongside the original Telugu offerings.

The producers of Captain Miller have officially confirmed that the film will not see a Telugu release, limiting its availability to Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi audiences. On the other hand, the distributors of Ayalaan in the Telugu states are yet to make an official announcement regarding their decision. There is speculation that the Telugu versions of both Captain Miller and Ayalaan might face a delay of one or two weeks, allowing ample time and space for the new Telugu releases to make their mark at the box office.
The potential exclusion from the Telugu market could have repercussions on the opening day box office collections of Captain Miller and Ayalaan.

While Captain Miller is a period drama, Ayalaan is a sci-fi drama. In Captain Miller, Dhanush plays the lead role of an outlaw, taking on the might of the imperial forces. Ayalaan aims to capture an aline's experience of living in modern-day Chennai city. Both films are set to hit the screens worldwide on January 12.
