Amit Sharma is glad that his directorial, Ajay Devgn-starrer Maidaan, is soon going to arrive at the theatres. Here’s what he exactly said.

Maidaan marks the first collaboration between actor Ajay Devgn and filmmaker Amit Sharma, who is best known for his films Badhaai Ho (2018) and Lust Stories 2 (2023). Slated to be released on April 10, which coincides with the festival of Eid, this film is a sports drama based on the life of Indian football coach Syed Abdul Rahim. Given Ajay Devgn’s success in action films, this comes across as an atypical casting. Anil Sharma has now explained why he chose Ajay to be a part of the film despite him being a famous action hero.
Before casting Ajay Devgn for Maidaan, Amit Sharma took careful note of Devgn's established public image, particularly renowned for his portrayal in the Singham franchise. Despite this, Ajay is playing the lead in this sports drama film under Amit's direction.
Speaking with The Indian Express, Amit Sharma said, “When my team and I started having conversations about Ajay, I remember at one point he (Ajay) stood like the way Ajay Devgn does with swag. However, seconds later, he chose to stand like Syed. Simple, slightly bent. There was no Singham, only Syed. I told him he would be wearing loose pants because you are a coach, and you won’t think about what you are wearing. To my surprise, Ajay never once bothered about his physical appearance.”
