We had told you Ashwin Kumar, who rose to fame with the reality show Cook With Comali, was teaming up with filmmaker Prabhu Solomon. Now, the latest buzz is that the film doesn't have a leading lady. A source tells OTTplay, "Reports were saying a newcomer was playing the female lead opposite Ashwin. But it isn't true."

This untitled film, which has music by Nivas K Prasanna, went on floors in Kodaikanal, earlier this year. Touted to be a social drama, we hear that the film takes place in a moving bus and revolves around the lives of Ashwin's character, and his grandmother, who is played by the versatile, Kovai Sarala.

The source tells us the shooting is almost complete before they call it a wrap. "There are a few minor patchworks, which will be completed in the next few days," adds the source.

This yet-to-be-titled film is produced by Trident Arts Ravindran, who inked a three-film deal with Ashwin that includes Enna Solla Pogiraai.

Though Ashwin Kumar had starred in films like Enai Noki Paayum Thota, Adithya Varma, and Oh Manapenne, Enna Solla Pogirai, directed by Hariharan, was his debut project as the hero. Ashwin's album song Kutty Pattas, co-starring Reba Monica John, is one of the most consumed Tamil songs on YouTube.

Director Prabhu Solomon's last film was the trilingual Kaadan (Aranya, Haathi Mere Saathi). He is also said to have completed the shooting of Kumki 2.

Ashwin Kumar, in an interview with a leading daily, said, "I am looking forward to seeing how the audience would react to this film I'm doing with Prabhu Solomon sir. The script is offbeat. Though I can’t reveal any details about the project, Prabu Solomon sir’s films always have a message. This one, too, has a solid takeaway for the audience. As an upcoming actor I was apprehensive if I should do this project, but how Prabhu sir sketched out my role and instilled confidence in me, made me take this up."

Also, Ashwin added, "To move away from the usual hero-heroine films, this step was a huge challenge!"

Speaking about Nivas Prasanna, Ashwin said, "Both of us have been friends for a while and he’s probably the only friend I know in the industry. To be honest, we didn't know we'd end up working together. It was a surprise when I learned that he would be composing music for my film. I am sure even if we had planned to work together, this wouldn’t have come through the way it is now."
