Max, which sees Sudeep return to khaki yet again, as Inspector Arjun Mahakshay, is releasing in theatres on December 25
Over the last weekend, when the team of Kiccha Sudeep’s next, Max, was officially introduced with the first press briefing, it emerged that the actor does not have a romantic interest in the film. Has he given up on onscreen romance? Well, not yet, but Max, according to Sudeep, did not need a love interest for his character.
Kiccha Sudeep’s Max will be a Christmas 2024 release after all
Addressing the media, Sudeep explained that since Max is a story that unveils over 1 night, with a runtime of a little over 2 hours only, it was a creative call that he took along with the team to not have a romantic entanglement for his character. Sudeep adds that the initial brief included sequences with a heroine, but he felt that it had no value add to the narrative and would only lead to comments wondering why an actress was given so little to do.
“We should respect women and they should be in a film only when they are definitely needed. Let’s say we bring someone and get her to do something, tomorrow, people will ask why she was in the film when she had nothing substantial to do. Keeping this in mind, we decided against a love interest, even though, the plan was to include a flashback sequence with a heroine. I thought it was unnecessary,” explains Sudeep.
He cites the example of Vikrant Rona, in which Milana Nagaraj’s cameo as his late wife was necessary for the story progression, whereas Max did not require such a distraction. “You cannot force-fit characters. If there’s a requirement in the narrative, sure, but if not, I don’t see the point in adding such elements,” he added.
