The actress says that she was happy and anxious about working with Darshan, but was able to do her best as he helped her get comfortable on set.
Nimika Ratnakar is not exactly a complete novice in Kannada cinema; she’s already three films. But the actress admits that it is only after she did the now viral special number Pushpavati from Kranti with Challenging Star Darshan that audiences have begun to notice her. The response to the fleeting glimpses of the duo dancing in the special number has been beyond phenomenal, says the actress, who is now eagerly waiting for the film to release in theatres, so that she can see audience reaction to the full song on the big screen.
Interestingly, when Nimika was approached to be a part of the song, she had no idea that it would be with Darshan. She was asked that if she were to be given a special number with a superstar, whether she would be interested to do it. She, of course, did not give it a second thought, as she saw it as an opportunity to further her career prospects. At the time, she added, her morale was a bit down, as she was not getting the kind of offers that she was hoping to get and the movies (Abbara and Mr Bachelor) she had done were not hitting theatres. Despite having been in the industry for over four years, she was fretting about not getting the right break when Pushpavati came along.
When she then met the team, she saw producer Shylaja Nag, composer-director V Harikrishna and filmmaker-lyricist Yogaraj Bhat and that is when it struck her that the song was for Darshan’s film. Once she was okayed by the team to be a part of the song, everything fell into place in record time. “Within the next four days I was on set and rehearsing for the song. Dancing with Darshan sir is an unforgettable experience. I was just as anxious as I was happy about working with him. Working with a superstar is not child’s play and I was meeting him for the very first time. But then he went out of his way to ensure that I was comfortable on set and that is why, I think, I was able to do my best for the song,” Nimika said, speaking to an online news channel.
Kranti, produced by Media House Studio, releases in theatres on January 26.
