The film might work only with word-of-mouth, as the content has been dismissed by critics.
Nikamma starring Abhimanyu Dassani, Shirley Setia, and Shilpa Shetty Kundra, earned Rs 51 lakh on its first day at the box office. by Sabbir Khan, showed better occupancy in mass centres than in metros and is expected to grow over the weekend.
Nikamma was released on Friday and the film was in the news when it was announced a few years ago since it was supposed to be Shilpa's comeback film. Then the COVID-19 pandemic struck, and everything in the film industry changed. Meanwhile, Shilpa starred in Hungama 2 which was released exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar last year. Nikamma has been released, and it's being billed as an action drama with a family theme.
Nikamma holds a particular place in Abhimanyu Dasani's heart because it is his first commercially released potboiler. Before that, he made the experimental film Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota. Then came Meenakshi Sundareshwar which was another middle-of-the-road picture that was geared toward OTT.
Nikamma is his Abhimanyu as a commercial hero, with action, dance, romance, and emotions, as one would expect from a newcomer to the profession. Shirley Setia, a popular singer and YouTuber who has advanced to the role of leading lady, joins him. She, too, made her feature film debut with Maska which was released on Netflix in 2020.
The film's trailer gives the sense of a classic masala entertainer, and one can't wait to see how it does at the box office. As per reports in Bollywood Hungama, because the film has mostly newbies in the lead roles, it'll all come down to word of mouth. The film should have a stronger start on single screens, and the collections, especially in the interiors, should be better. A start of Rs. 75 lakhs to 1 crore might be a good start for this Sabbir Khan directed film, which isn't facing much competition, so if the final product is well received, considerable growth can be predicted on Saturday and Sunday.
