Niharika: Rituparna Sengupta, Sudipta Chakraborty, and others gather at the trailer launch
After its festival round, Indrasish Acharya’s new film Niharika will be released for the Bengali audience. The cast and crew members of the film released the trailer on Thursday. The film, which features Shilajit Majumder and Anuradha Mukherjee, is billed as an intense relationship drama. This is Indrasis’ fourth release after Bilu Rakkhosh, Pupa, and The Parcel. Produced by Pastel Entertainments & Media Pvt Ltd and presented by Avijeet Nandy of Sreema Creation, the film will be released on July 21.
Along with the cast and crew members, Rituparna Sengupta, Sudipta Chakraborty, Kanchanaa Moitra, and Atanu Ghosh were also spotted at the event. According to the director, the film was praised in eight festivals. It tells the story of the relationship between a girl and her maternal uncle. Talking about the film, Indrasis said, “If anyone loves nature, they will find solace in the film. We managed to capture the lovely landscapes around the Bihar Chattisgarh area during the monsoon. It is a girl’s story. It has relationships and breakups and also has the girl finding herself among nature. It also tells the story of the girl living independently and alone at last.” There is a lonely house in a big field. It is called Niharika. The story will revolve around this.
The film is shot in remote areas in Madhupur, Simultala, and Giridih for one year to capture three seasons – summer, monsoon, and winter. Niharika is a crowdfunded project in which about 15 co-producers chipped in to finish the project. Indrasis explained that since independent films are not made keeping commercial success in mind, it becomes difficult to gather funds. “When we started shooting the film, only one producer, Pastel Entertainment, financed the first bit. It was only after the first phase of shooting that we showed our work to other producers, and they came forward. I believe that it is important to have a space for creative independence,” he explained.
