The director said that the movie was made to be viewed in black and white and urged the fans to watch it
Guillermo del Toro has been able to garner a band of fans thanks to his list of work across his career as a filmmaker. The director's latest project is the second silver screen adaptation of William Lindsay Gresham's novel Nightmare Alley.
Following the release of the movie, del Toro has asked fans to watch the movie in its black and white version. While talking in length about his latest work in an interview with Collider, del Toro said, “When the movie is available for home, one of the things that I beg people if they can do it, is to watch the movie in black and white.”
The filmmaker said that this is because they used a very traditional cross lighting in the movie so that it is lit like a black and white movie. He also added that it was art directed with lots of red, green and gold, which gives the movie the mid-tones in grey and that it is like a black and white movie that was done in colour.
The writer-director of Academy Award-winning The Shape of Water in length about the movie including the 3 hours 19 minutes cut of the psychological thriller and the work done by long-time collaborator and cinematographer Dan Laustsen.
While the movie has received positive reviews, it has failed to impress at the box office. With a budget of $60 Million, it is the most Searchlight Pictures have spent on a feature.
The film boasts an ensemble cast including Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe, Rooney Mara, and Ron Perlman.
