Amazon Prime Video has publicly confirmed working on a Spider-Man Noir series in February 2023.
Spider-Man Noir Series, Ft. Nicolas Cage
Spider-Man is suddenly one of the most successful superheroes again, not just among the entire superhero culture but among fans as well. Once with the most crowd pull, he had a low time in between, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' and Sony’s animated 'SpiderVerse' movies have resurrected the supreme trust of the fans in him. At this point, if someone tells you that a big streamer is eyeing making a show out of the gold mine, you will be surprised. And when the other update is that they are looking to cast Nicolas Cage as the web-slinging superhero in that IP, you shouldn’t get too excited, you should start jumping around.
If the latest reports are to be believed, Nicolas Cage is being eyed to play the web-slinging superhero created by Marvel in an Amazon Prime Video show. It is said to be a Spider-Man Noir series that the streaming giant is developing. The Direct says that the studio is already in talks with the actor, who is already a comic book cinema veteran and was recently seen as DCU’s Superman in a cameo. The studio wants the actor to lead the series that was announced very early last year and felt like it wasn’t going anywhere. But the naysayers were wrong.
Announced in February 2023, the show will be set in the New York City of the 1930s and will follow Spider-Man Noir. This isn’t the first time Nicolas Cage has been attached to Spider-Man Noir, as he has already voiced the part in the movie 'Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse' for Sony and was appreciated for his voice acting by the critics and the audience alike.
However, there is no information on whether Amazon Prime Video is making this show with the intent to blend it into either the Marvel Cinematic Universe or the Sony timeline of the Spider-Man world. Or even just a standalone IP far away from the aforementioned two.
There is no confirmation on whether the show will follow the same character from the Sony animated movies or will be a completely new take on the same. There is no confirmation of this news right now but one cannot deny the possibility. However, anything before the official announcement should be taken with a pinch of salt. Meanwhile, Spider-Man Noir is one of two Spidey shows that Prime Video is developing right now. 'Silk: Spider Society' is the second one and is now standing on uncertain waters as it has no writers' room on board post the Hollywood strikes.
Nicolas Cage can be easily called the veteran of the genre. In the course of his career, the actor has played Ghost Rider, Spider-Man Noir for the animated movies, and even Superman. He played the Blue Boy Scout variant in 'The Flash', which was released last year. Now if the actor manages to crack the Amazon show, he will have his third superhero live-action franchise in his kitty.
Reports also said that Marvel Studios was actually eyeing Nicolas Cage to reprise Ghost Rider for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But now if the actor chooses Spider-Man Noir, the chances of him making a comeback as Ghost Rider look bleak.
