Neymar was Naslen and Mathew Thomas’ most expensive film as leads
Young actors Naslen and Mathew Thomas’ entertainer Neymar, which had a theatrical run for over 50 days in select centres, is finally gearing up for the release. The movie, which marked the two actors’ most expensive film till date, was helmed by director Sudhi Maddison.
In an earlier interview with us, Sudhi had confirmed that the film’s OTT rights were snapped by Disney+ Hotstar. Now, the platform has announced the streaming date of the film, which also has Shammi Thilakan, Vijayaraghavan and Johnny Antony as part of its cast.
Neymar had hit theatres in May and was appreciated by a section of the family audience for its light-hearted entertainment. It was shot in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, and was a mix of several genres including a dog movie as well as an adventure.
The film had youngsters playing friends Akamsh and Sinto. The latter suggests Akamsh to get a dog to impress a girl he likes. This plan, however, doesn’t quite work due to the ruckus that the dog named Neymar creates in their lives as well as those around them. After Akamsh’s father gets rid of Neymar, the duo then decides to go to Tamil Nadu to bring it back. What awaits them in the neighbouring state is more adventure, courtesy Neymar and his canine competitors.

In a recent interview with OTTplay, Sudhi said, “The feedback has been positive and the producers are also happy with the film’s theatrical run. More than the actors, it’s the dog that played the central character that won the hearts of the audience.”
The film’s OTT release date is currently set on July 28. Disney+ Hotstar recently released Saiju Kurup and Navya Nair’s Janaki Jaane, and Neymar will be its second Malayalam release this month.
Incidentally, Neymar’s OTT release will happen a week after another canine-led film Valatty: The Tale of Tails hits theatres in Kerala. The latter, which will be told from the perspective of dogs, has actors such as Roshan Mathew, Soubin Shahir, Sunny Wayne and Ranjini Haridas lending their voices to the canines.
