The Kannada dialogues of the Ranbir Kapoor-led film are straight up from Google Translate, allege netizens
Ranbir Kapoor’s much awaited film Animal is only a week away from hitting theatres, in the run-up to which, the makers today revealed the trailer, and thereby, a slightly more detailed look into what to expect from the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial. Also starring Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, among others, the film will release in Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam on December 1 and the trailer had versions in each of these languages. While Kannada audiences are always pleased when other language films are served in their tongue, and support dubbing too, very often, the quality of the audio is what fails to attract them to theatres.
Unlike, say, Adipurush, the Kannada dubbing of which was widely appreciated, for the quality of the translated dialogues and the voice talents used, Animal has no such redeeming qualities. According to netizens, the dialogues in the Kannada trailer feel like the Hindi original being passed through a Hindi to Kannada Google Translate session. There’s been no effort in making the lines sound more natural and the absence of a professional Kannada dialogue writer is noticeable, they felt. And if that wasn’t bad enough, the choice of voice talents was also a major issue. While Rashmika has dubbed for herself in the Kannada version, netizens were wondering whose voice it was for Ranbir, which does not suit him at all.

It must be noted that Fahadh Faasil’s Dhoomam had similar feedback when the Kannada trailer came out, following which the makers had to redo it and ensure that the film had better voice talents on board. While the film didn’t do wonders at the box office, the Kannada dubbing received praise, with some even saying that it was even better than the Malayalam original version. Unlike Dhoomam, which was produced by Hombale Films and directed by Pawan Kumar, which necessitated a good Kannada version, the makers of Animal may not invest time and effort in improving the dubbing quality.
