Netizens feel Shahid Kapoor doesn't match Nani's brilliance in the Jersey trailer

It's no mean task for an actor or a director to set themselves up for a remake, especially when the original is still etched in the minds of the viewers. While audiences moved past those comparisons with Shahid Kapoor's blockbuster hit Kabir Singh, the Hindi remake of Arjun Reddy, the challenge has only doubled for the actor with his next film Jersey, also a remake of a Telugu film, that featured Nani, Shraddha Srinath in the lead. Interestingly, in both the cases, the original directors, Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Gowtam Tinnanuri have directed the Hindi versions as well.

Audiences across the country, including the Telugu crowds, were curiously anticipating the trailer of Jersey's Hindi version this evening but their reactions suggest that they are not completely happy about it. While a bulk of netizens don't discredit Shahid Kapoor's acting chops, they opine that his performance in the trailer pales in comparison with Nani, who breathed intensity and emotion into his act in the Telugu version. This is a debate that no remake can escape regardless of how well it has shaped up. Take a look at the reactions here:

The scene where Nani's roar merges with the sound of a moving train is one scene that audiences hold close to their heart in the Telugu version and the reactions indicate that Shahid's act hasn't impressed a section of the film's fans. Some of the fans even think that Shahid Kapoor has only channelised his inner Kabir Singh for the trailer and didn't get into the skin of the role. For a brief while, the hashtag #JerseyDeservesBetter was trending nationwide on Twitter.

While not many have talked about Mrunal Thakur or Pankaj Kapur, the arguments about who between Nani and Shahid did a better job doesn't look like ending any time soon. Allu Entertainment, Dil Raju Productions and Sithara Entertainments (who also produced the original) have bankrolled the Hindi remake of Jersey. The film is all set to hit theatres on December 31.
