Netflix India has roped in seasoned Malayalam actress Shakeela to promote the latest season of its hit series Sex Education. All the episodes of the final and the fourth season are now streaming on the platform. And the streaming giant recently released a promotional/educational video headlined by Shakeela.

For the uninitiated, Shakeela is a controversial figure in the Indian film industry. She rose to fame in the 1990s by playing the lead roles in adult films. However, she later transitioned into mainstream cinema and acted in various Malayalam and Tamil films, where she played supporting roles.

Shakeela's teaches basics of sex education

It was a very strategic move by Netflix to tap into Shakeela's popularity to promote its show, which is aimed at removing the social stigma around sex. In the promo video, Shakeela shows a lot of maturity, patience and wisdom while talking about the subject, which is still considered taboo to discuss openly in public.

The Malayalam sketch opens with two young people, a boy and a girl, showing interest in learning car driving. And they find themselves at the driving school run by Shakeela. In the video, Shakeela steps into the shoes of a teacher with great ease and never loses composer with her students when they make mistakes or even engage in a bit of slut-shamming.

Shakeela briefly explains seven guiding principles of sex education, with 'consent' being the important part of the activity. And of course, she highlights the importance of taking safety measures. She also addresses various aspects of the subject, including respecting the sexual orientations of others, the importance of self-pleasure and the menace of slut-shamming.

About the Sex Education show

Sex Education is a sex-positive comedy-drama that revolves around the struggles of teenagers and the pains of growing up.
