Reports have stated that Zoya Akhtar will be directing a docu-drama on the filmmaking duo, the rights for which are being eyed by Netflix,
Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar have curated some of Bollywood’s most celebrated hits together. The duo worked on the scripts of movies like Seeta Aur Geeta, Zanjeer, Deewaar, Sholay and Don among others. Reports have stated that a docu-drama is being planned to celebrate the legacy of the duo that is expected to be directed by Zoya Akhtar. Netflix is apparently in advanced talks with the filmmakers to bag the streaming rights of the documentary.
The prolific writer duo has been credited for transforming the scenario of commercial cinema in Bollywood. Their releases were not only hits at the time of release, but they’re still immensely popular even today. A report on Bollywood Hungama suggests that Netflix is rushing to get exclusive streaming rights of the project and is hoping that the deal gets inked soon.
The docu-drama is expected to feature popular Indian actors, the announcement for which will be made as soon as the paperwork gets finalised.
The insider also added that Netflix is currently in talks with many other achievers in different streams for the same. In a recent conversation with a leading news portal, Salim Khan had revealed “Zoya (Akhtar) shared this idea (with me) around a month and a half back and she has started her research too. It’s not a biopic but something like a documentary.”,
Though most sources are claiming Zoya to be the director, recent reports are questioning if someone new will be brought in. An official announcement of the documentary and its release on Netflix is anticipated.
