Netflix comedy Uncoupled: Neil Patrick Harris to lead the series

The show will focus on the story of a gay man in his 40s who is caught unawares when his partner of 17 years leaves him

Neil Patrick Harris is all set to take on the lead role in the upcoming Netflix comedy Uncoupled, reports Deadline. The series is created by Darren Star, well known as the mind behind the popular shows Younger and Emily in Paris. Harris is also reported to serve as an executive producer on the show.

The series is said to follow the story of New Yorker, Michael, who is abruptly left by his husband of 17 years and who must now face the reality of being a single 40-year old gay man.

Filmmaker Darren Star has a host of hits to his name, serving as a creator on the shows Melrose Place, Sex and the City, Younger and Emily in Paris, the latter’s second season which has started filming this year.

Along with Darren Star, Jeffrey Richman is also co-creator of the show. The Emmy winning Richman has worked on several fan-favourites such as Modern Family, Frasier and Sex and the City. The two, both of whom are openly gay, have called it a project that feels ‘personal and universal’ for them, especially as it features a gay leading man.

Neil Patrick Harris, perhaps best known as Barney Stinson from the sitcom How I Met Your Mother, has previously starred in the Netflix produced black-comedy A Series of Unfortunate Events as Count Olaf. The Emmy award-winning actor is also set to appear in the upcoming fourth instalment in the Matrix film series as well as the action-comedy The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.

MTV Entertainment and Jax Media will also produce the show. The series whose production is said to start sometime this year is said to be made available for streaming in 2022.
