Netflix acquires Thalapathy Vijay's The Greatest of All Time OTT rights for record sum

Netflix seems to be aggressive in expanding its regional offerings in India. As per industry sources, it has bagged the streaming rights for the highly anticipated Tamil blockbuster The Greatest of All Time for an undisclosed sum, setting a new record in the history of OTT deals in Tamil cinema. An official confirmation on the same is awaited.

Netflix's 2024 slate just got bigger

The Greatest of All Time stars Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay in the lead role, while director Venkat Prabhu is at the helm. The streaming giant already boasts a lineup of some of the most significant upcoming Tamil blockbusters . Besides, The Greatest of All Time, Kamal Haasan's Indian, Ajith Kumar's Vidaa Muyarchi, Sivakarthikeyan's Amaran, Vijay Sethupathi's Maharaja and others will also stream on Netflix after completing a few weeks of their exclusive theatrical runs.

Netflix has also made strategic investments in the Telugu film industry, by becoming an official streaming partner for some of 2024's most-awaited movies, including Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule and Jr NTR's Devara.

The highly-awaited Tamil movie

The Greatest of All Time will be a special film for fans of Thalapathy Vijay as it is likely to be one of the final films in his career. Earlier this year, Vijay sent shockwaves through the Indian film industry by announcing that he would retire from acting following the completion of his next project, tentatively titled Thalapathy 69, to focus fully on building his political party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam.

Details about the Thalapathy 69 project are currently unknown. The buzz is that RRR producer DVV Danayya of DVV Entertainment will bankroll the movie. Speculations are rife about leading filmmakers Vetrimaaran and Karthik Subbaraj being considered to helm Vijay's last film. However, there is no clarity on the matter yet.

The production of The Greatest of All Time is going on in full swing. The film is touted to be a sci-fi thriller with Vijay essaying a double role.
