Mari Selvaraj's Maamannan may not have received a unanimous response like his previous outings Pariyerum Perumal and Karnan garnered, but that hasn't stopped the movie from setting the cash registers ringing. The project is said to have collected over 30 crores after its theatrical run for six days.
It is already the highest grosser for Udhayanidhi who is expected to bid adieu to acting, thanks to his busy stint with politics. Vadivelu's never-before-seen performance and Fahadh's stunning act in the role of the antagonist are prime highlights of the movie, which offers a riveting score by AR Rahman as well.
Netflix acquired the film's digital rights a while ago, and Maamannan is expected to drop on the platform in the last week of July. The film courted a few controversies prior to its release, which helped elevate the hype surrounding it. It is also said to be the fourth biggest opening in Tamil this year after Thunivu, Varisu and Ponniyin Selvan 2.
The movie is now gearing up for its release in Telugu states. The Tollywood version has been titled Nayakudu, and it will be released by Suresh Productions and Asian Cinemas in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on July 14.
Udhayanidhi's Red Giant Movies, which has bankrolled Maamannan, took to Twitter to announce, "After conquering the box office in Tamil, BLOCKBUSTER #MAAMANNAN is all set for a grand release in Telugu on July 14th (sic)."
