The scene brought Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the limelight
Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Huma Qureshi’s ‘permission leni chahiye’ scene was inspired by his own life. The scene became famous in Gangs of Wasseypur 2. One of Nawazuddin’s girlfriends asked him to take permission before touching her. That became a part of the film.
During his interview with Mashable India, Nawazuddin remembered the incident with his ex-girlfriend. He recalled how he asked her if she would accompany him to a park. When he saw that the park was empty, he put his hand around hers. She asked him ‘yeh kya hai?’ and he said ‘haath hai’ but then she said it is illegal. That made Nawaz think of police and court cases. Thus, he felt that he committed a huge mistake.
Nonetheless, the actor went ahead and asked her what she meant by illegal. That is when she said that if he wanted to put his hand on hers, ‘permission leni chahiye thi na.’ He then agreed and she continued that if she allowed him to touch her hand, then he could touch her anywhere he liked. The actor explained that is not what he had in mind. She then cited the example of how you often knock or ring a doorbell before entering someone’s house to explain why what he did was wrong.
Nawazuddin had narrated the story during one of his workshops. Remembering that, Anurag Kashyap incorporated the incident in the now famous Gangs of Wasseypur 2 scene.
The actor then shared that he made Nawaz and Huma sit near a lake and they gave the shot in one take. It was that scene which made Nawazuddin very famous.
In the 2012 release, Nawazuddin played the role of Faisal Khan. The first installment saw Manoj Bajpayee play the role of his father, Sardar Khan.
