Navya Nair’s comeback Malayalam movie Oruthee is set to get its sequel. The makers of the film made the announcement by sharing a poster of the upcoming film titled Oruthee 2, along with the tagline, ‘A woman is more human than a man’.

The upcoming movie will have most of the cast and crew from Oruthee returning, with Navya as Radhamani, Vinayakan as sub inspector Antony and Saiju Kurup as Saiju Kurup playing the lead roles once again. The film is set to go on floors in December 2022.

Oruthee, which released on March 18 in theatres, opened to largely positive reviews, with many hailing the performances of Navya and Vinayakan. VK Prakash had directed the film, based on Shikkar fame Suresh Babu’s script.

The movie revolved around a boat conductor, essayed by Navya, who has to shoulder the burden of her family with her husband being away in the Middle East. After her daughter is admitted to a hospital due to food poisoning, Radhamani decides to pawn her jewellery for money to pay the bills. However, she soon finds out that the jewellery had cheated her and they further take her for a ride. How she seeks justice, with the help of a tough and upright police officer forms the plot of the movie.

Navya’s performance in the film had already earned her the Best Actress honour at JC Daniel Foundation Award. The movie, which had completed shooting in March 2020, was delayed due to the pandemic, but the makers were insistent on releasing the film in theatres.

Apart from the trio, the movie also has Santosh Keezhatoor, KPAC Lalitha, Kalabhavan Haneef and Sreedevi Varma. Oruthee will be released on Manorama Max after its theatrical run.
