On the occasion of National Cinema Day, multiplexes are charging a flat Rs 99 per ticket, which has gathered huge crowds
Friday the 13th is not a public holiday and yet, in Bengaluru, cinephiles have been flocking to multiplexes across the city, where, as part of the National Cinema Day celebration, ticket rates had been reduced to a flat Rs 99 per person. Last year, National Cinema Day was a big success in the city and it’s no different this time around. Multiplexes across Bengaluru are reporting fast filling or sold out shows for most of the movies that are currently playing.
According to trade trackers, at the start of day on October 13, Bengaluru was registering several fast filling and sold out shows, with Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, which released on September 7, leading the pack. The Atlee-directed film had as many as 93 fast filling/Sold out shows. This was closely followed by Akshay Kumar’s Mission Raniganj, which recorded 84 such shows. In third place was Mad with 66 shows, while Fukrey 3 recorded 53. Rounding off the top wo were Kannur Squad (41), The Exorcist (27), Baanadariyalli (17), Irugapatru (14), Thank you For Coming (11) and Chithha (11), reports trade tracker Karnataka Talkies.

Jawan, which released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu only, has so far amassed a whopping Rs 1125 crore and counting and is showing no signs of slowing down, even as it inches closer to its OTT premiere on November 2. Industry insiders say that the phenomenal response to National Cinema Day is proof that audiences will flock theatres if good content is available at reasonable ticket prices. The reduced prices are, of course, not applicable to IMAX, 4DX and ICE Formats, with recliner seats also attracting higher costs. In response to the increased interest in Golden Star Ganesh’s Baanadariyalli, distributors KRG Cinemas announced that the film will continue to be available at Rs 112 only for the next four days.
